‘Neers Clinch Season Series over North Adams with 8-2 Win

MONTPELIER, Vt. – The Mountaineers grab their fourth-straight win with an eight-run, 14-hit performance against the North Adams SteepleCats.

Rapid Recap

 

  • Matthew Colella towered his first home run of the season with two outs in the top of the 1st inning to give North Adams an early 2-0 lead.

  • Charlie Niehaus plated Vermont's first run in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI groundout. However, SteepleCats starter Jake Foster was able to strand the bases loaded.

  • Vincent Davis smacked a two-out single to shallow right field to tie the game at runs after three innings.

  • Davis sent a sac fly to deep center in the 5th to give Vermont their first lead of the evening.

  • Alex Benevento stole second after his fourth hit in the 6th inning and allowed Elliot Miles to make the score 4-2 Vermont after the throwdown. 

  • Miles ripped a two-run RBI single in the 7th against reliever Matt Higgins, and scored on a wild pitch to give the Mountaineers a five-run cushion. 

  • Vermont added one more run in the 8th inning with JJ Parsons scoring before the tag was applied on an attempted steal by Davis.

  • Jonny Pagano closed out the game for the Mountaineers to secure their fourth win in a row.

  • The Mountaineers recorded two extra-base hits on Monday. Vermont is third in the NECBL with 90 to their name, first in the NECBL in doubles and leads the league in triples.

  • Vermont stole four bases against the SteepleCats. They lead the NECBL in that category.

  • Matthew Minckler is first in the league for the most stolen bases with 34. He stole a bag against North Adams on Monday.

  • Minckler scored one run against the SteepleCats to put him at a fourth-best 28 for the season. 

  • Elliot Miles is tied for third in the NECBL with 23 stolen bases. He notched one more base against North Adams.

  • Alex Benevento's three runs scored puts him tied for fifth in the NECBL with 27 home plate touches.

  • David Alvarez's hit puts him in third place in the NECBL with 38. His two RBI against the Gulls also put him tied for fifth in the league with 23.

  • Alvarez's triple against Newport puts him at ten extra-base hits. He and Minckler are two of 16 in the NECBL with double-digit extra-base knocks.

  • Rex Hauser's six innings of work ties the longest outing by a Mountaineers pitcher this summer.

  • Jackson Hulcher's four strikeouts against North Shore puts him eighth in the league with 33 Ks.

  • Minckler's two triples against the SteepleCats on July 15 gives him the most in the NECBL.

  • Miles' double on July 15 makes him one of seven players in the NECBL with eight or more doubles.

  • Brendon Miller's eleven strikeouts against North Adams on July 12 is the most by a Vermont pitcher in a single outing. The Mountaineers' 19 total strikeouts is the most in a single game this season for the team.
