Neers Defeat North Adams 13-10 in Comeback Effort

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Vermont survived a chaotic 13-10 contest at Joe Wolfe Field to secure their third win on the road and first victory when down by four runs.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Vermont survived a chaotic 13-10 contest at Joe Wolfe Field to secure their third win on the road and first victory when down by four runs.

Rapid Recap

 

  • Matthew Minckler flared a single in the top of the 1st, and scored on a throwing error by catcher Owen Arias. 

  • Sebastian Rhoades hit an RBI groundout in the bottom of the frame to plate Alex Barrist and tie the game.

  • Arias popped a sac fly to score Tony Woodie in the 2nd inning after Woodie extended his lead over the rest of the NECBL with his 13th hit-by-pitch.

  • Minckler tripled to center field in the 3rd, and scored his second run off another North Adams throwing error.

  • Nelphie Lopez and Rhoades notched back-to-back RBI doubles against Vermont starter Eli DeRossi to give the SteepleCats a 4-2 lead. Evan Meier scored Rhoades off a single to give North Adams a three-run lead after three innings.

  • Aidan Botti cracked an RBI single in the 4th to send Charlie Niehaus home. JJ Parsons scored Rex Hauser on a deep sac fly, and Botti scored on a wild pitch from SteepleCats reliever Richie Kerstetter to even the contest.

  • Andrew Tringe walked Nelphie Lopez with the bases loaded for a 6-5 North Adams advantage in the 4th, but Owen Crowe finished out the frame to keep the score as is.

  • In the bottom of the 5th, Crowe walked the bases loaded. Kody Collins filled in, but gave up an RBI to Arias and Pablo Aquino as well as a wild pitch to give North Adams a four-run lead. 

  • Minckler launched his second triple of the night in the top of the 7th. Anthoni Kiafoulis balked on the mound to score Minckler and bring the score to 9-7 SteepleCats.

  • Still in the 7th, Bryce Rudisill stole home with two outs against Niko Christon who replaced for Kiafoulis after he failed to record an out. Botti tallied his second RBI to make it 9-9.

  • Parsons smoked a two-run RBI triple to give Vermont their first lead since the 1st inning.

  • Jake Butler scored on a dropped strike three in bottom half to cut the lead to one for North Adams.

  • Luke Deschenes gave up three straight hits to start the bottom of the 8th. However, Parker Camelo's swing allowed Vermont to turn a triple play with the bases loaded.

  • Parsons added two insurance runs in the 9th with a two-run single against Parker Guthrie.

 

Vermont Game/Season Notes

  • The Mountaineers recorded six extra-base hits on Wednesday. Vermont is second in the NECBL with 87 to their name. However, they lead the league in both doubles (61) and triples (12).

  • Vermont stole nine bases against the SteepleCats. They led the NECBL in that category.

  • Minckler's two triples against the SteepleCats put him tied with Matthew Jackson for most in the NECBL.

  • Elliot Miles is third in the NECBL with 19 stolen bases. He notched two more bases against the SteepleCats

  • David Alvarez's two hits on July 8 puts him in second place in the NECBL with 34. His three RBI also put him tied for third in the league with 23.

  • Matthew Minckler is first in the league for the most stolen bases with 29. He stole two bags against North Adams on Wednesday.

  • Brendon Miller's eleven strikeouts against North Adams on July 12 is the most by a Vermont pitcher in a single outing. The Mountaineers' 19 total strikeouts is the most in a single game this season for the team.

  • Alex Benevento scored one run against the Nighthawks on July 4 to put him at a sixth-best 22 for the season. 

  • Nick Mullen hit an RBI double in the 6th inning against Upper Valley on July 4. He is now tied for second in the NECBL with eight doubles to his name.

  • Matthew Jackson's triple against Valley on June 30 makes him the only NECBL player with three in the category this summer.
