After the first two Newport batters in the bottom of the 2nd, Braxton Tramel smoked a two-run RBI single to give the Gulls the first lead of the evening.

Nolan Urian stepped in for Vermont starter Max Weber after two innings. Gus Gandy notched his first hit of the season with a two-out grand slam.

Devan Zirwas scored another run in the 4th off a throwing error from catcher Sebastian Collender.

Newport starter Will Taylor tossed four full innings and sat down eight batters. He was replaced by Mickey McClaskey.

Collender helped bat in a runner alongside Brayden Leonard to cut the lead to five off a double and single respectively in the north half of the 5th inning.

Adam Broski hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 5th to tack on another run.

Gandy brought home another runner in the 7th inning to balloon the score to 9-2.

David McSweeney handled the final two frames on the bump for the Gulls.

Max Weber, Nolan Urian, Jackson Hulcher and Connor Jernigan all made their second appearances on the mound for the Mountaineers. Jernigan went the furthest, tossing the final three frames.
